Great West Run 2012

On Sunday 6th May members of the Running Club took part in the Great West Run.  They had all previously run at least 12 miles, some doing more in the GWR Cross Country event and the Wilcombe Wobbler.  They  all did fantstically well and were very proud of their medals and tee shirts.

Year 4 Residential at the Dartmoor Centre

At the beginning of May Year 4 children from Sidbury joined together with Y4 children from Hemyoch Primary School for an action packed 3 day residential staying in a remote location on Dartmoor.  The children took part in a range of activities focusing on our natural environment using their senses to complete tasks.  The children were in mixed groups from each school which was a great way to build relationships with other children from across our Federation.  Some of the activities included a moorland walk, making willow fish, creating 3D sculptures using natural resources and dream catchers.  Luckily the weather was good to us and we remained dry enabling us to make the most of our beautiful surroundings.

Class 2 Visit to Powderham Castle

Class 2 went on a day trip to Powderham Castle to support their topic, A Long time Ago.  The class discovered what castles looked like years ago and what they are used for in the present day.  The children also enjoyed a ride around the grounds on a tractor trailer to see the many deer which are living on the estate and playtime in the Children’s Fort in the walled garden.  Despite the wet weather, the class managed to complete trails both inside and outside the castle and each child was awarded with a medal to take home.

Cross Country

Since the start of the Running Club at school we have discovered some very talented runners at Sidbury!  Firstly, most members of the Running Club are taking part in the Great West Run in May and have been clocking up  the miles both at the Club and at home.  Secondly, they have been very sucessful in two cross country events at Bicton College and at Exeter Arena.  At the Exmouth School’s Cross Country event at Bicton, Josh Miller came 2nd in the boys Y3/4 event and Jude Dinham-Price came 4th in the boys Y5/6 event.  In the girls Y5/6 event Sophie James was 1st, Emily Bolton 2nd and Codie Preece 4th.  More success came at Exeter Arena where out of a field of 150 children in both events Emily Bolton was the first girl home in the Y5/6 event coming 12th followed closely by Sophie James in 13th and Max Peacock in 15th.  In the Y3/4 race Josh Haigh came  in 5th.  All the Sidbury runners in both races came in the top 5o.  Well done to all our runners who took part in these events and we wish them good luck for the Great West  Run in May.

Jump into Action

During the week before half term our four schools had a themed week, we called ours  ‘Jump into Action’.  We had lots of visitors to tell us about keeping ourselves fit and healthy and visits from those people in the community that can help us.  One of the highlights of the week was the visit of the Sidmouth Fire Engine, on its way back from Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s kitchen fire!  Other visitors were, the St John Ambulance, the School Nurse, a Tae Kwan Do instructor, a Zumba instructor and lots of parents helping  us to make healthy snacks and smoothies!
